B. There are several hosting websites that can be used to show information that can be useful towards a business that was started at home. First off is pay pal, this web site can help you keep track of money and it is an easy way for clients to pay you. Then there is EBay this web site is used to sell things via auction. I know for a fact that my friend has started his own business on this website. EBay can get your products out to the consumer fast and thousands of people use it. Then there is Google. You can pay Google money in order to get your website to the top of a search list so you can target certain groups of people.

C. The internet is changing the way that we communicate. Certain sites like face book help people keep contacts that normally you wouldn’t remember or you wouldn’t talk to it’s a great way for people to communicate across the globe. There is also MySpace, a web site that is like face book but you can post your bands songs on it so it can be used to contact other bands to get together for shows. Video games also keep people closer together. World of War craft for example lets me play with friends who are in Florida for college. I agree with this statement because without these websites and programs I wouldn’t talk to half the people I do now.
E. One trend on the internet will be the increase of download sites. For example media will start to be available for download instead of in disk form so you will be able to download movies and games with out having to go to a store. I’m not such a huge fan of this because I like to have a physical copy of my programs
Another trend is the increase of information hosting websites. Soon everyone and their mothers will have some website where they can post their information. I’m not such a huge fan of this one either because I don’t believe that every piece of information available should be on the internet
Another trend is the ability to order stuff online and get it delivered to your house and not just books or movies I’m talking about food. You can go to a pizza store online and put a list and they will be able to deliver it to your house. Hurray for faster food it’s a good idea but it just takes the fun of calling up to hear a human voice on the other end of a phone.

Cyberbullies
As technology advances bullies have found new ways to harass their victims. There are several new ways to bully people such as e-mail, instant messaging, and sending pictures over the internet. They can also hack and change the person's facebook or myspace to have embarrassing photos. It has become the favorite form of bullying because its difficult to find out who is doing it. They can do it with almost no one finding out that they did it. Picture can reach a global audience instead of just the school or office that the victim works at.
As always there are a few ways that you can avoid cyber bullies. The first tip is to not post anything that might come back to haunt you. Anything you post can and will be linked back to you so if you would feel uncomfortable showing the picture to your family then don't post it. The second is treat others as you would want to be treated. Last is to report to the appropriate authorities so they can help you out.
I have seen people get fired from their jobs and have their lives ruined from posting stupid photos on the web. Cyberbullies do exist and there are a lot more then you think on the web. I try not to post my picture on forms and I also don't post comments that might make people really angry. It does suck that these bullies have found new ways to ruin people's lives and because of the internet it can be sent to everyone you know so it can have some really bad results.

Copyright
Using the Precis article and (optionally) other sources, answer the following questions:
1. Do you think the Swarthmore students were exercising their freedom of speech or were violating copyright laws? Why?
2. What is CopyLeft and what is its purpose?
3. Describe the issues that proponents of CopyLeft have with the current copyright laws.
4. What effect did the CopyRight Act of 1909 have?
5. What is the Creative Commons? Describe its purpose.

Cybersquatting
Jerry Fairwell, a man who blamed the Sept. 11 attacks on gays and other groups that he didn't agree with, sued Gary Cohn for opening up a web site domain in his name saying it violated trademarks by using the Jerryfalwell.com and Jerryfallwell.com Web addresses. Gary Cohn used the web sites to post parodies of Jerry Fairwell. In the end the lawsuit was thrown out because the court Cohn's site did not target a virginia audience and that court did not have jurisdiction over this matter. Many people praised this find because they would have found it against the freedom of speech if Cohn was found guilty.
I believe the courts were right in this decision because first of all I hate Jerry Fairwell and his anti-common sense preachings. I find him insulting to think that 9-11 can be related in some way that the gay community did it. Also the other reason I find that the courts were right is that it would have been a violation of free speech and that's one of the most important things in this country.

Précis 3
Around the fall of 2003 a group of students had found and posted a bunch of emails from Diebold Election Systems saying that their machines could be at risk at hackers. The students posted them on a web site so that they could tell the world what happened and they thought that the public should know about this, but because of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act the company threatened copyright infringement and the web site was taken down with out any trial or public hearing. Although after complaints from the students and some bad press from the company, the company told them they were not going to sue them. The letters were yet again posted on the web site.
The 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act is when a private company threatens to sue an internet service provider on copyright issues the internet service provider can remove the copyrighted material so they can't be sued. This means that private companies has the most power over any of their information on the web because internet service provider usually doesn't want to be brought to court so they just delete anything that the private companies don't want up on the internet.
I personally find this 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act to be a offense to freedom of speech on the web. If the information is there it should be able to be shared with anyone on the web without threat of a lawsuit. It is just another example of how the big corporations can hide their mistakes from the public. Also it is not exactly fair when a 12 year old child is sued for downloading music or trying to sue a girl scout camp for royalties for the songs they sing. I find it to be a disgusting practice for big companies to go after people who want other people to know the truth.

Warriors of the Net Worksheet
1. Packet switching is a network communication method where the information that you are sending is broken up into small packets and sent across the net work
2. LAN stands for Local Area Network and it is a network that covers a small area such as a house,
3. The role of the router in getting a packet to its eventual destination is that it is responsible for the actual process of sending the packets and receiving them.
4. The proxy uses a NAT to make all the computers of one LAN to connect to the internet with one IP
5. A firewall is used to keep out unwanted access and monitors all the information that is sent and received.
6. The ping of death is a sent malicious ping that consists of 65535 bytes and usually crashes the computer
7. The firewall will block access from that port until someone says otherwise
8. The information is decoded and put back together
9. Once the information arrives at the place they want it to go they send another packet back saying that the information made it
10. The information will be resent.

Net Neutrality Assignment
I believe that everyone has a right to the internet and i don't agree with anyone telling me what i can and cannot visit on the internet. I refuse to pay the internet providers extra for watching my favorite videos on you tube or have some of my favorite web sites go so slow that they can barely load because the website didn't pay the internet providers enough money for a good connection. I'm glad that some people in congress think that this is an terrible idea. The internet should stay the same way it is right now.
Net neutrality is the thought that access to certain parts of the internet should not be blocked by companies such as AT&T and Comcast. Internet providers would force their customers to pay more for the sites they want to see and that will block all the web sites that the companies do not want their customers to see. Over the past several years the popularity of this subject has increased and has many groups up in arms and they have called on congress to make sure this doesn’t happen. The new Snowe-Dorgan legislation would prevent the companies from blocking certain parts of the website and making other parts faster (the faster websites being the ones who pay more to the internet providers).
There is also another part of the bill that will take effect if it is passed. That part is that the internet provider must provide customers the option of purchasing standalone broadband service. Although most companies think this would block advances in custom internet connections and that in turn would stop all the advances that the internet can do. Others think that this would be a far law that would allow everyone an affordable access to the internet. Even thought the act didn’t pass that year it could still pass the following years because of the democrats have the majority of the seats in the house.
