I believe that everyone has a right to the internet and i don't agree with anyone telling me what i can and cannot visit on the internet. I refuse to pay the internet providers extra for watching my favorite videos on you tube or have some of my favorite web sites go so slow that they can barely load because the website didn't pay the internet providers enough money for a good connection. I'm glad that some people in congress think that this is an terrible idea. The internet should stay the same way it is right now.
Net neutrality is the thought that access to certain parts of the internet should not be blocked by companies such as AT&T and Comcast. Internet providers would force their customers to pay more for the sites they want to see and that will block all the web sites that the companies do not want their customers to see. Over the past several years the popularity of this subject has increased and has many groups up in arms and they have called on congress to make sure this doesn’t happen. The new Snowe-Dorgan legislation would prevent the companies from blocking certain parts of the website and making other parts faster (the faster websites being the ones who pay more to the internet providers).
There is also another part of the bill that will take effect if it is passed. That part is that the internet provider must provide customers the option of purchasing standalone broadband service. Although most companies think this would block advances in custom internet connections and that in turn would stop all the advances that the internet can do. Others think that this would be a far law that would allow everyone an affordable access to the internet. Even thought the act didn’t pass that year it could still pass the following years because of the democrats have the majority of the seats in the house.
